Synopsis:
Running...
When Leah’s ex-boyfriend Kevin betrays her in a horrifically public way, she leaves town to spend her last summer of college in a place where no one knows who she is or what happened to her.

All she wants is a little peace of mind and some good surfing so she can regroup before returning for her senior year.

Avoiding...
After his own tragedy a few years ago, Drew developed an entirely new and unique outlook on life and became a risk-taker, daring and dangerous, everything Leah wanted to avoid.

But a bizarre encounter forces her to let Drew into her life, little by little, secret by secret. He’s smart, funny, persistent, and makes money in a rather unconventional way.

 Falling...
They share a mutual fascination and attraction, until her past with Kevin complicates her present with Drew, making Leah question her future.

Just as her life seems to be spinning out of control, Leah learns that sometimes you save someone by letting them save you.

(BREAK MY FALL, the first book in the No Limits series, is a complete, full-length novel that can also be read as a stand-alone.)

 Excerpt
I had talked to Drew on three previous occasions over the summer, each time wanting nothing more than to be left alone. Our fourth conversation took place the day I got arrested, and it changed everything.

It was the middle of July and Tropical Storm Andrea was bearing down on the South Carolina coast. Most people were secure in their homes for the day, avoiding the winds and flash flooding, heeding the warnings of local officials.

But to me, those warnings were made to be ignored, especially when the advisories called for waves that would be six to eight feet high.

Surfing is how I find peace. It’s the purest form of escape I’ve ever known. I had always felt like that, but after what happened to me a couple of months ago, having an escape from everyday life was more critical to my survival than ever.

I had fled from my life a few months ago, leaving Florida and ending up in the Charleston, South Carolina, area. I had escaped in a literal, physical sense, but I still craved the mental escape, and for me there was no better way to do that than riding waves.

The tide was going out—a good thing in any tropical storm or hurricane—and as I walked across the sand toward the water, the incoming waves hurled themselves toward the beach, crashing violently and disintegrating, followed shortly by another, another, another… The waves here on Isle of Palms are sometimes pretty decent and surfing-worthy, but nothing like the ones provided by Tropical Storm Andrea.

I walked into the ocean, feeling the undertow pulling at my ankles, almost urging me to go farther out, an urging I didn’t need because I was about to get in some of the best surfing I’d had since arriving here.

Past the first few breakers, I placed my board down on the water, flopped my belly down on it, and began paddling. First straight out, then parallel to the beach, waiting for the wave that would take me back to shore.

I chose my wave, paddling myself into position. My brain switched into what I call Surfing Escape Mode:

I’m on the wave. It’s powerful. Rough. Almost violent. It pushes me. Lifts me.

 I’m free.

I have to work to remain free—flexing my leg muscles; using my arms to balance my body; shifting my center mass to stay steady; all of this is work, hard work, but the payoff is being free.

It’s usually over in a matter of seconds like that. But those real-time seconds are long dream-like minutes, and that’s exactly what I desire.

The freedom didn’t last long that day, though, because as I trudged through the knee-deep water where the ride ended, I looked up and saw a cop. He stood facing me, a few dozen yards away up on the beach.

I don’t know how long he had been there. Probably just a few minutes. But if he’d been yelling, I hadn’t heard it, thanks to the noise of the roiling Atlantic, and the wind. It was mid-afternoon, but the storm made it seem like dusk. Using his flashlight, the cop motioned for me to get out of the water and come toward him.

I had a choice to make: either pick up my board and obey the officer, or ignore him and go back out for one more wave.

Teaser

I dissolved into the seat of his amazing car. A low moan escaped my lips but Killian just showed his dimples and buckled me in. I wondered what he’d do if I pulled him tightly against me and sniffed… for an hour or two. He opened his door and folded into the seat with absolute grace regardless of his size. “Ah hell,” he muttered and turned my way. Unlatching my seatbelt, he pulled me in for the most mouthwatering kiss I’d ever had. His lips, soft but firm, molded to mine. His tongue ran over my teeth, tasted, dipped deeper, and then plunged. He effortlessly slid out the elastic holding my hair before spreading his fingers to either side of my scalp. The kiss intensified and Killian made promises for the night ahead with his lips. He tasted so damn good. When he pulled back, I actually whimpered and smiled at the low rumbling growl that came from Killian’s throat. He took my lower lip between his teeth and pulled slightly before letting go. He put distance between us leaving me bereft. “We’ll eat at my house.” He kissed my forehead, reached over, grabbed the seatbelt, and fastened me in again. My hands went to my hair as I looked around for the hair tie. “Leave it.” I stopped my search but couldn’t help running my fingers through the mussed tangles. Killian’s hand captured mine. “No.” He released my fingers just as fast as he verbalized the one word. I wasn’t a pushover, didn’t have much experience with guys, but I had some. I should have argued, straightened my hair anyway, or even voiced some sort of displeasure. An electrically charged pulse shot straight to the junction of my thighs, and there I went and tried to stain his car’s upholstery. I kept my mouth shut.

Review

The author provided me a copy of "Play" for my honest review.

"Play" is the first book in the Completion Series--a sports themed series-- by Holly S. Roberts.

"Play" is the story of Rebecca, a long distance running college student, and Killian, the star pro football quarterback. It just goes to show you that something amazing can come from a bad situation.

Rebecca has a negative self image of herself and no one can ever say that about Killian. He's an alpha male who knows exactly what he wants. And he wants Rebecca. With his help, she begins to accept herself more and falls head over running shoes.

Killian is the stuff of dreams... from sex in the rain, games from the skybox and flights to away games, Killian sweeps Rebecca off her feet.

"Play" is a love story. But it is not all touchdowns and wins. Killian has a pain filled past and a game day ritual that doesn't leave room for Rebecca or losing.

The secondary characters of "Play": Rebecca's friends Amanda and Lyle; and Killian's team mates, his family Beth and Mike, bring so much to this story that you find yourself wrapped up in the whole story.

And you find it impossible to put this book down.

I absolutely loved this book and found myself cheering for Rebecca and Killian throughout this whole book.

While I did buy and read "Him", the author did give me a copy of "Her" to review.

Most people will not read them back to back like I did. I think that actually takes something away from it. Not much, but I think it would definitely better to read them with some distance between them but that's just my opinion.

"Her" is the story of Will and Sarah. With a twist. It tells you what happened with Will and Sarah from Will's point of view. In "Him" you learned about their relationship, what separated them and what drew them back together. From her point of view. "Her" glosses briefly over their past but focuses more on the events that bring them together again after several years and goes forward.

You will fall in love with Will Price. While those that read reviews here know I do not like to give anything away, I feel safe in telling you that Will is dreamy. It is a beautiful story and, if truth be told, I think I like it better from Will's point of view. Maybe it's because I am a woman and I tend to relate more to how women think and feel; so it was really nice to get the story from his perspective and compare it to how Sarah felt about it and how she related to the same situations. I found it eye opening!

I loved both of the books. I love feeling like I have the complete picture of their entire relationship because I have read both books. I like having a complete picture; it leaves no room for unanswered questions.

Review
In the interest of full disclosure, the author provided me with both books in the series for my honest review.

Let's just say, Hazel St. James could have been looking at some of my old journals when she wrote some of this book. I think I can safely say that never have I seen myself in a character as much as I see myself in Tristan. Will I be waiting for the next book in this series? Yes, without a doubt.

Tristan suffers from a form of mental illness (although I do hate to use that word). In "Fighting For You", you meet him and see what leads to his breakdown. You meet Peyton and Gabriel and Susy. "Being With You" follows the story of Tristan and the steps he takes to try and become whole.

While some who have not ever experienced the highs and lows that Tristan has might not be able to relate, Ms. St James does a great job of sharing a description that will hopefully open many eyes. For those of us who have lived parts of this tale, it is alarmingly accurate.

I found myself marking the phrases that I have used before and it was easy for me to rally and cheer for Tristan. And to groan when yet another obstacle got in his way. As "Fighting for You" drew to a close, and Peyton and Tristan went their separate ways, you were left wondering how Tristan would heal without her.

You knew he had to-- to ever find his way back to her-- but you knew he needed help and Susy became that aid. You become as invested in her as you do the others and you meet Caleb, Peyton's brother.

I like a book with real characters suffering from real issues. Too many times we are given ideal after ideal and few of us seldom live up to the ideal. It's nice to see a bit of reality!

Fighting For You (Redemption Series 1)
Synopsis
Tristan Hart is just getting started out in the world, when he is handed a severe blow that breaks down every barrier he has ever erected. What gets left behind is a twenty-four year old tortured soul, searching for the road to redemption.

Peyton Bauer is a natural born nurturer that wants nothing more than to care for those in her life. She carries her own past that she keeps carefully hidden from everyone. Peyton and Tristan are thrown together by fate and the attraction between them is instant.
Tristan sees his recovery as slow going, but even still, he is ignoring a part of himself that often times appears in his dreams. Those dreams hold so much more than Tristan is willing to acknowledge and it holds him back.

Tristan and Peyton struggle to find a happy medium for themselves as the relationship heats up. Tristan is left with a difficult decision that he doesn’t want to make.

How far will they go to hang on to something doomed to fail? Will Tristan’s life make strides in the right direction, or does his lack of foresight cause his world to come crumbling down?

Excerpt:
He moves closer and already my body is responding. He smells like cigarettes and leather, two smells I never thought were sexy until now. I want to fall into his body, to be wrapped in his arms, and I fight it. It’s wrong and it makes no sense. I have everything I could ever want. Jack is just a distraction.
“I’m not that kind of girl,” I tell him.
He steps closer still and kisses my neck. His lips are soft, which is unexpected, and it sends a shiver through me. Jack brings me in to his chest. I can feel his heart beating; it’s quickening and it matches mine. I feel his tongue sliding down along my collarbone. There is nothing like this, but I need him to stop. And yet, I never want him to stop. “I’d love to know exactly what kind of girl you are.”
Almost as if they are not my own, my hands slip between his jacket and his shirt. The heat of his skin burns me even through the fabric of his clothes. His lips continue to travel downward, but as they reach the curve of my breasts, something in me wakes up. I tear myself away from him and back up a few inches.
“I have a boyfriend,” I repeat. “I can’t do this.”
“Where is he?” Jack asks. His eyes are burning.
“What?”
“Where is your boyfriend? You’ve mentioned him before, but you run into me a lot for someone who’s so in love.”
